The Whale Tee is inspired by the annual migration of humpback whales off the east coast of Australia. Commercial whaling in the 1950s targeted humpback whales, with a major whaling station on Moreton Island intercepting their migration route. In just over a decade, almost the entire population was harvested and only a few hundred individuals were estimated to remain. The industry collapsed, bans on whaling Australian waters were introduced in the 1960s, and whales were offered protections such as the implementation of The Australian Whale Sanctuary in Commonwealth waters. These measures have contributed to the steady recovery of the East Coast humpback whale population. Today, approximately 40,000 humpbacks move from Antarctica, along the East Coast to the Great Barrier Reef every year. This success story is a testament to what can be achieved with effective conservation action, but unfortunately many cetacean species and populations remain threatened by human activities.
Famous for their aerial displays, humpback whales are true ballerinas of the seas. Individual humpbacks continue to be threatened by the Queensland and NSW government Shark Control and Swimmer Protection programs. 15 humpbacks have been entangled in shark nets so far in the 2022 season.
Our Whale Tee features 2 humpback whales on the back and the hand written Little Wild Lines logo on the left breast. 10% of profits from these shirts are donated to marine conservation.
A t-shirt should be able to go through everything. Coffee date spills, workouts, ran-out-of-pyjamas, camping, and of course, the sand and surf. This is why we only use the highest quality 100% cotton from the Better Cotton Initiative.
Our shirts are trialled and tested, at home and in the field. We can say with confidence that they hold up to the elements (but have not withstood an angry turtle, sorry.). They are printed by a local family business in Brisbane, and made to order to reduce waste. This means they may take a little longer to arrive than your favourite fast-fashion brands. But trust us, the wait is worth it.
Buy one for yourself, one for your dad and one for your dog. It will make a cute family portrait on Christmas morning.
Available in Ocean Blue and Powder Blue.
